Food across Religion: Universality of Humanity

The diversity of humanity has cultivated flavorful varieties of cultural traditions in our world. Across the broad spectrum of that diversity, one can observe and pinpoint parallels and commonalities, thoughtfully reminding us of the universality of humanity and the natural disposition of our unity.

The “Was IsSt Religion” project takes us on an intimate journey through the experience of religion in a modern day society, exposing the diverse yet symmetric role of food, rituals and social traditions in religions. Below the surface, the project aims to illustrate expressions of universality of humanity.

The project was chosen to take place in Zurich, emphasizing the wide range of colors ethnic and religious diversity can bestow onto a geographically small society like Zurich. The journey comprises 37 recipes hosted and prepared by families of diverse ethnic backgrounds living in Zurich. The journey has been documented and published into a book that can be ordered here.
