As the bureaucrats at the top of the European Union were rolling out their panic plan of containment and repellent, in the layers of society underneath the bureaucracy, seemingly random individuals stood up one by one to offer an alternative course of action.
Seeds that had silently been garminating for decades, now suddenly bloomed above earth, offering fruits of empathy and compassion as a relief to the enduring of the refugees. From Sweden and Poland to Spain and Italy, and from the United States to Colombia – students, teachers, office workers, cooks, carpenters, artists, housewives, individuals from a wild variety of walks of life, somehow simultaneously decided to leave the comfort of their homes and made their way to the Balkan.
An unprecedented act of compassion expressed itself across humanity, where the flocked individuals united themselves into grassroots movements, offering solutions and kindness to the everyday struggle of these stranded refugees.
